The Struggle Every Dad Knows Too Well…

When my first son arrived, my routine exploded

Sleep vanished. Healthy meals turned into take aways & snacks

I’d pour whiskey at night and tell myself “I'll start tomorrow.”

My days became a blur of work, traffic, stress, and trying to be present at home.

I looked in the mirror one day and thought:

"Who is this guy? This isn’t me."

I wasn’t just heavier. I was weaker, softer, and constantly tired.

I dreaded family photos, and even running up the stairs left me winded.

My Daily Struggles Looked Like This:

  • Eating anything and everything in the cupboards & fridge out of boredom

  • Grabbing take aways because I was too exhausted to cook

  • Gaining weight even though I didn’t have the baby

  • Feeling guilty about taking time for myself

  • If I did take time for myself I'd fear my girlfriend would resent me or cause problems

I tried every strategy that previously worked before I had kids:

  • Fasting & cutting calories drastically (left me starving and binge eating later)

  • Cutting out all carbs (impossible to stick to as a dad surrounded by snacks & junk food)

  • Strict gym programs (but I needed 90 minutes a day which I just didn’t have anymore)

  • Going for long walks or runs (I just couldn't be bothered & would rather spend my time watching netflix)

  • Skipping meals (made me irritable, snappy with my kids, and led to late-night binges)

So all this stuff worked in my 20's and early 30's before having kids.

Motivation and will power wasnt what it used to be

I just felt like I lost that fire in my belly to get in shape again!

My Low Point…

One day I was slumped in my office chair watching YouTube

I stumbled across some clips from a show called 'Love Island'

Most of the men on there are jacked & tanned

I was watching it with a jam donut in hand and a full glass of whiskey...

and I thought to myself...

'Maybe this is just me now...'

'Maybe I'm meant to be fat and out of shape'

That's when it hit me!

I realised I was quitting and accepting defeat!

I thought to myself, what would my son think of me if he could see me now?

Big fat white belly hanging over my shorts, binge eating and being somewhat of an alcoholic!

So I literally said... 'THAT'S IT!!'

I stood up

and did 10,000 steps on the spot in my office at 11:30pm at night

Followed by 100 press ups

I was half drunk
